My Mary Bird Perkins Story

What makes Mary Bird Perkins a leading cancer care organization?
It is one of the leading cancer care organizations in the Gulf South. We provide a level of cancer care at Mary Bird Perkins on par with other highly-recognized cancer care organizations throughout the country.

Why do you support Mary Bird Perkins?
Cancer is a complex disease, and the most effective way to fight it is with the most current and innovative tools and resources available. Mary Bird Perkins offers that leading-edge care right here at home, and it is a gift to our community. We need to continue to advance care for everyone in Louisiana and beyond.

Why is a gift to the endowment so important?
Gifts to the endowment are critical because they provide funding long into the future. The endowment helps support day-to-day operations, invests in the future of cancer care, and provides care to many people in our community.

If someone asked you why he/she should make a gift to Mary Bird Perkins, what would you say?
The leadership team at Mary Bird Perkins is an exceptional steward of the organization’s resources. Todd Stevens has been at the helm of the organization for 20 years. In that time, he has overseen its growth from a small radiation cancer program to a comprehensive cancer center that treats patients across the entire continuum of cancer care.

Giving a gift allows you to make a difference today and leave a meaningful legacy for the community that will impact countless lives.

What is your vision for the Cancer Center and how do you think philanthropy can drive that vision?
I envision a future for Mary Bird Perkins where we can continue to maintain its leadership in in cancer care. In some specialties, treatment stays relatively static. Cancer care, though, is a rapidly evolving field. To keep up with the pace of change, we have to be nimble and responsive. The organization can continue leading the charge because of philanthropic support.

What motivated you to accept the invitation to serve on the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Foundation Board of Directors?
When I learned how exceptional Mary Bird Perkins is in terms of the exceptional quality of the care the team provides and the impact the organization has on the community, it was an easy decision to serve.
