My Mary Bird Perkins Story

What makes Mary Bird Perkins the leading cancer care organization?
The care patients receive. I experienced their excellent care first-hand when I faced a cancer diagnosis. I was overwhelmed by their expertise, dedication and kindness, and I valued so much knowing that I was in expert, capable hands.

Why do you support Mary Bird Perkins?
Having personally experienced their exceptional patient care, I knew that Mary Bird Perkins was an organization I wanted to support. Having a top-ranked cancer center right here at home made all the difference in my care, and I want to ensure that everyone in our community has the same access to care that I did.

Why is a gift to the endowment so important?
For a community of our size, the opportunity to receive care at such an impressive cancer care facility with leading-edge technology and innovative treatment is such a gift. Support from the Foundation allows the Cancer Center the ability to offer that level of 21st-century cancer care to its patients while also adding new patient services, recruiting top-notch cancer specialists, participating in clinical trials and offering the latest in radiation and pharmacological treatments.

If someone asked you why he/she should make a gift to Mary Bird Perkins, what would you say?
It provides such peace of mind to know that we have the convenience of a world-class cancer center in our backyard. Our loved ones won’t have to face traveling, finding housing or other logistical issues on top of battling a cancer diagnosis.

Giving a gift to Mary Bird Perkins through participating in the Rathbone Society, for example, means they won’t face those additional burdens and can focus 100% on their health.

What is your vision for Mary Bird Perkins and how do you think philanthropy can drive that vision?
My vision for Mary Bird Perkins is that it continues to provide high-touch, personal patient care for all who walk through its doors while continuing to grow its capacity to treat those in need by expanding its facilities to new communities in the Gulf South Region.

What motivated you to accept the invitation to serve on the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Foundation Board of Directors?
Mary Bird Perkins has given so much to me and to so many others that my wife and I know and love. We were more than happy to give back in whatever capacity we could so that everyone in our community can experience the kind of care I received as a patient at Mary Bird Perkins, should they need it.
